PRP Hair Loss Treatment | Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Hair Loss Treatment
If you are looking for specific hair loss treatments, we recommend looking at Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy, otherwise known as PRP hair loss treatment.
Loved by the Hollywood elite, PRP is a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment that harnesses the body’s natural healing abilities to target a number of concerns, including hair loss, antiaging, and even sports injuries.
Considered one of the safest aesthetic treatments on the market, PRP uses nothing, but the natural components found within your own blood to stimulate collagen production and restore tissue health for natural rejuvenation.
Naturally, human blood contains several key nutrients that each play a vital role in supporting overall health and body functionality. These nutrients include platelets that help support coagulation, plasma, which carries water and enzymes around the body, and growth-stimulating proteins known as growth factors to support overall health.

Frequently Asked Questions?
1) What Is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?
PRP therapy is a popular treatment in dermatology and aesthetic medicine because there are no pharmaceutical products used and the result leaves you looking natural and refreshed.
Blood platelets contain large numbers of growth factors, which have been extensively researched and widely used in the medical field to promote tissue healing.
We utilise the growth factors and proteins retrieved from your blood to rejuvenate the skin. By isolating and separating the PRP from your blood, a concentrated, naturally occurring solution can be injected into precise locations.
This procedure increases collagen production, improves volume loss and skin tone, softens wrinkles and gives back your youthful appearance. We go into more detail about PRP therapy on our blog.
2) The PRP Procedure
During a PRP procedure, we will start by drawing blood from your arm, similar to a regular blood test. This blood is then placed into a specially designed centrifuge that spins the blood to isolate platelets and other nutrients. What remains is known as the platelet-rich plasma, which is then injected into several regions on the scalp to target dormant hair follicles and encourage natural rejuvenation.
PRP treatment takes around 40 minutes to complete and has no real downtime associated with it. You may experience slight redness of the scalp, bruising, and tenderness for a couple of days following treatment, but this is normal and should clear up within a few days.
3) How Long until PRP Hair Loss Treatment Shows Results?
Typically for optimum results, patients require between 40-50 shots per session and will require a series of three treatments spaced eight weeks apart for the treatment to be effective.
As hair follicles can take time to produce new hair, the results of PRP may not be instantaneous, particularly for those with significant bald patches. Four to six weeks after treatment, you may start to see fresh hair growth, but to maintain the benefits, it is recommended that you undergo regular maintenance treatments each year.
4) Is PRP Hair Loss Treatment safe?
So, is PRP treatment safe? The answer is yes. As PRP treatment uses nothing more than your blood, it carries a very small risk of infection or complication and is known as one of the safest treatments on the market.
Before undergoing treatment, we will invite you in for a consultation to discuss your concern and determine whether PRP is the treatment for you. There are some medical conditions that may impact the suitability of PRP, these include:
- Skin cancer
- Pregnancy
- Hepatitis C
- Blood cancer
- Aids
- HIV
- Cardiovascular disease, which requires blood thinning medication
What Causes Hair Loss?
Naturally, the average person loses between 50-100 hairs each day. Unfortunately, certain conditions can cause this number to increase, which in some cases leads to significant thinning and baldness.
For many people, hair forms part of their identity and is intranasally linked to overall self-confidence. For this reason, hair thinning, and hair loss can become incredibly debilitating and have a severe impact on overall mental health.
Typically, hair thinning, and loss occurs when hair follicles remain dormant, and new hair does not grow to replace the lost hair. This results in a significant thinning of the hair in certain areas, resulting in bald patches and sometimes complete hair loss.
Whilst hair loss is more prevalent in men, it can also impact women. On average, hair loss affects over 85% of men and 40% of women.
So, what causes hair loss? Well, the leading cause for it is genetics, and is thought to be hereditary. It is caused by oversensitive hair follicles reacting to DHT, which is a by-product of the male hormone, testosterone which is also present in females. This condition is commonly referred to as male/ female pattern baldness.
Male and female pattern hair loss typically develops slowly and can take several years to notice visually, but the changes often manifest themselves as a receding hairline, patterned thinning of the hair, or significant accelerated hair loss.
Whilst genetics is the leading cause, there are several different factors that can contribute to hair loss, including:
- Family history (heredity)
- Hormonal changes
- Medical conditions
- Medications
- Natural aging
