With so much misleading information on the internet, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that cosmetic treatments are something every man and his dog can carry out at home.

We take a look at why it’s important to choose your practitioner carefully before going under the needle, and how to avoid botched cosmetic procedures after all you’ve all seen the program BOTCHED right??

1) You don’t know your skin as well as you think you do

Well you do and your guidance for me is imperative, you do know it, only I know the products and the vast amount of regimes a little better, so combined we make the perfect team.

However, If you’ve ever been tempted to buy one of the many DIY cosmetic treatments that are currently flooding the internet, on amazon, or on Google you’re not alone, I’ve seen some disasters.

For many, Google has become a plague for us aestheticians, nurses, and doctors as whilst it has fab content it can also lead people ‘down the garden path’.

Plenty of people are now turning to search engines to research and buy home-use devices for procedures such as microneedling, and microdermabrasion with UGLY effects and without getting advice from a licensed practitioner first.

While there are some decent home-use kits out there, there are plenty of terrible ones too, and it can be difficult to tell the difference. Also let’s face it when you at home we don’t always see the dangers, like cross-contamination, infection a, disease, and topical plagues that route amongst our skin – I CAN

The real danger lies in the fact that there’s no way of knowing how your skin will react to a DIY cosmetic kit either, an ALLERGIC effect alone could be life-threatening. While you may think you understand what’s suitable for your skin type, the truth is you’ll never know your skins reaction or how to solve a bad situation quickly, so whilst we may not know it better at times we can certainly advise and keep you safe whilst maintaining the best standard YOUR skin has to offer YOU.

2) You pay for what you get

There’s a reason why cosmetic treatments have a high price tag. Performing them to a good standard is a skill that only trained practitioners should be trusted with.

Unfortunately, the cosmetic industry in the UK is largely unregulated, which means just about anyone can legally provide injectable treatments. This lack of regulation has led to a rise in rogue and unqualified practitioners who profit from popular demand. It’s kind of like those dodgy programs you see when builders have gone rogue.

These procedures are like anything else: there’s generally a reason the cheaper options are cheaper. Either the practitioner isn’t medically trained or they’re using a budget, unsafe products leaving you feeling like you wished you had just researched or listened when someone referred the slightly more expensive practitioner. Let’s face it if you break a leg someone will steal your crutches for fun and you will laugh but when it comes to your face it’s not a laughing matter, it’s confidence, self-esteem, its what makes you YOU.dont pay the real price for poor cosmetic work with cheap products.

3, You’ll end up paying more to repair the damage

From misshapen dermal fillers to swollen lips, the results of a cosmetic procedure gone wrong can be disastrous.

Save Face, a government-approved register of accredited practitioners has reported a huge rise in botched cosmetic procedures over the last few years. What’s more, the organization said it receives hundreds of reports from accredited practitioners who perform corrective work on patients suffering from someone else’s dodgy work.

The cosmetic industry is increasingly becoming a scary place PLEASE do your homework

4) You could even be scarred for life

Sometimes the side effects from a botched cosmetic treatment aren’t so easy to cover up.

One of the biggest risks with poorly executed injections is necrosis – I speak to every single client of mine with regards to this risk, and they are fully informed, its risk after all, how many of you understand your capillary refill time? What dangers to watch out for? How to act quickly should a problem arise? The clients I treat do. Going back to necrosis, it’s simply the cause of a bad injection technique or a wrongful administration of dermal filler/substance into a vessel that can starve the surrounding tissues of oxygen causing them to die. This can be resolved with the right care from the right practitioner but scarring could happen and this could b life-changing.

There’s a grim picture of what can go wrong if you don’t choose your clinic carefully.

5) You won’t regret paying more

The bottom line is, that seeking out a qualified, reputable, and the registered practitioner will be worth every penny. Knowing that you’re in safe hands from the beginning will ease any pre-treatment nerves, and you’ll come away from the clinic feeling and looking amazing. We are with you every step of the way, taking on your journey and we provide a personal number to our aesthetician should you have any worries or concerns if we are unable to answer we are part of the BACN, and numerous forums should we require further specialist advice – you are in safe hands.

So how do you choose a practitioner?

You should think of purchasing cosmetic treatments in the same way you’d think about purchasing a car. Surely you’d want to know as much as possible about a car before you hand over your hard-earned cash, and it should the same with cosmetic procedures.

How long have they been doing this?

What are the side effects of the treatment you want?

The more questions you ask, the better.
